The short version
- No accounts, no sign-up. The places you pick, your name and your photo stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
- No advertising, no analytics services, no tracking cookies and no scripts, fonts or images from other companies.
- A visit counter that is anonymous and cannot follow you from one day to the next.
- We work out your approximate country (never your city) to choose a first language and map. This happens on our own server and your IP address is not stored.
Who we are
Unseen the World (unseentheworld.kuduy.com) is run by Kuduy (“we”, “us”). We decide how and why information described in this policy is used.
What stays on your device
To work, the site remembers a few things in your browser’s local storage. They are never uploaded:
- the places you have selected, for each map;
- your poster settings: theme, the name you typed, whether place names are shown, and the photo you added;
- the last map you chose yourself, your choice of language and your choice of light or dark appearance.
A photo you add is cropped and shrunk in your browser and used only to draw your own poster. You can remove it with the Remove button, and you can erase everything above at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
What our server handles
Visit counter. The hero shows how many people are online and how many have visited. When you open the site, your browser asks our server for these numbers and says “I’m here”. The server mixes the day, your IP address and your browser’s identification (user agent) with a secret key that only the server knows, and keeps only the resulting short code, one-way, so that it can tell whether it has already counted that visitor today. Your IP address and user agent are not stored.
- The code changes every day, so it cannot be used to recognise you on another day. Daily codes are deleted after about two days, and “online now” counts only codes from the last five minutes.
- What remains is a running total (a plain number) and the number of codes seen in the last five minutes.
- Visitors whose browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, and known bots, are not counted.
Country look-up. To open the site in a suitable language and on a suitable map, the server looks your IP address up in a table of address ranges that ships with the app. The look-up happens entirely on our server (no request goes to another company), gives only a country, is used for that single response and is not stored. If it cannot tell, your browser’s language and time zone are used instead.
Hosting. The site runs on servers of our hosting provider, Hostinger. Like any web host it may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time, page requested and browser identification) to run and secure the service, under its own privacy policy. We do not use these logs to profile visitors.
Other companies and links
The maps, fonts and country table are all served from our own server. Links in the footer lead to the websites of our data providers, which have their own policies. Our hosting provider processes information on our behalf, as described above.
How long we keep things
On our server: daily visitor codes for about two days, “online now” codes for a few minutes (they stop counting after five and are cleared soon after), and the running visit total for as long as the site exists. On your device: until you clear this site’s data.
Your choices and rights
- You can clear what is stored on your device at any time, and refuse the counter by sending Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union or the United Kingdom) you may have the right to ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority.
- The counter codes cannot be traced back to a person and expire within days, so in practice there is usually nothing to look up or delete; ask us if you are unsure.
Where the law requires a legal basis, ours is our legitimate interest in knowing roughly how many people use the site (the counter and the country look-up) and, for the language cookie, providing the feature you asked for.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because there are no accounts, children’s picks stay on their own device like everyone else’s.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and holds very little: no names, no emails, no photos, no IP addresses. No system is perfectly secure, but there is little here to lose.
Changes to this policy
If what we do changes, we will update this page and its date. If a change matters to you, we will say so here.
